"Get vaccinated, wear a mask indoors, adhere to prescribed epidemiological measures. And that is all. Live your life," said Dr. Nozic

The Omicron strain has arrived in Serbia. The new strain was confirmed in patients who arrived from Botswana, and crossed the border with a negative test. A meeting of the Crisis HQ has been scheduled for Tuesday.

Infectologist Professor Dr. Darko Nozic says that Omicron probably arrived in Serbia much earlier, but was officially registered only yesterday.

"According to information from Western countries, because they deal with virus sequencing, the Omicron strain is much easier to transmit than the Delta, but it gives a much milder clinical picture. The sense of taste and smell is lost less often and night sweats are characteristic of it. Patients who have Omicron are rarely hospitalized, even those who have not been vaccinated," Professor Nozic told the Uranak show on K1 television.

"I'm surprised by these new lockdowns in the West, I think that these measures are excessive, because now there is a high degree of immunity. Omicron is weaker, the virus has lost its power," he added.

Professor Nozic said that we must behave normally.

"We've been talking only about coronavirus for two years. People speak about vaccines and antibodies during celebrations. There is no longer any doubt that the vaccine gives clear protection. Get vaccinated, wear a mask indoors, adhere to prescribed epidemiological measures. And that is all. Live your life," said Dr. Nozic.

According to him, coronavirus has completely suppressed the flu.

"When one virus takes over a cell, it builds a barrier against other viruses, and coronavirus has been dominant for two years. We also wear masks. The most likely scenario is that the pandemic will stop in the spring and coronavirus will become like the flu. We will be vaccinated against it once a year. I believe in that scenario," said Nozic and added that Covid passes only contributed to the increase in the number of vaccinated, primarily young people, so that they would not have to do the test to enter a tavern.

The well-known infectologist also said that the value of supplements in fighting coronavirus has not been proven.

"Maybe only vitamin D, to some degree. For most people, supplements only have a placebo effect," said Nozic.
