In December 2021 and January this year alone, 105,601 residents of Kosovo and Metohija applied for a work visa at the German embassy in Pristina, while in the meantime a large number of people applied for the same document in other embassies.

Citizens say they are looking for a better life and more dignified wages, and they are waiting to receive a work visa for over two years, Kosovo media write.

The German embassy in Pristina announced that due to the high demand for visas for starting employment according to the Western Balkans regulations, which significantly exceed available conditions and provision of equal opportunities when applying, starting in December 2021, the time slots for visa interviews are given out on a monthly basis through draws.

In December 2021 alone, 56,639 requests were submitted, while in January 2022 there were 48,962 requests.
