Vucic: I believe we would have shot the drone down, because today we have means to do it

President of Serbia Aleksandar Vucic said on Monday that Serbia would have ways to shoot down an aircraft in a situation similar to what happened recently in Zagreb, Croatia, stating that we must not allow anything in that could endanger the citizens in any way.

Commenting on a statement that "a drone already happened" to Serbia during a Serbia-Albania football match, Vucic said that those who talk about it do not understand the difference between political provocation and something that was, according to him, "a kite and a toy" - and a deadly aircraft carrying six tons.

"What do these little drones that can only carry a camera or some paper have to do with serious lethal aircraft carrying six tons? But that only tells you what the degree of frivolity and irresponsibility there is in our public discourse. I hope and believe that we would have shot down this six-ton aircraft," Vucic told reporters.

As he put it - "Some have means to shoot it down, we do."

"We have the best air-to-air missiles, we now have air-to-ground missiles for our 4+ generation MiG-29s. We police our skies every night. There is a procedure, it is reported when a foreign object enters our territory, and then it is determined whether it is armed, whether it is dangerous and who should react... We must not allow anything in that would in any way endanger our citizens," said Vucic.

He added that Croatia has excellent ground army, but that they are somewhat weaker in the air force and air defense department.

"That's why they bought 12 Rafales. Those can destroy that in three or four minutes," said Vucic.
