Teodorovic: We'll have a peaceful summer, and a new round of vaccination of the entire population in the fall

Epidemiologist Professor Dr. Branislav Tiodorovic, a member of the Crisis HQ, says that a new round of vaccination will start in the fall, because the pandemic is not over yet, and we are not even close to declaring its end.

"I expect a new round of vaccination of the entire population to begin in the fall, especially those with immunodeficiency, the elderly and the chronically ill, with the latest vaccines, which will probably be polyvalent, i.e. contain multiple strains of coronavirus that will be dominant at that time. Leading companies, which produce vaccines against Covid, are working on making a vaccine like the one against the flu, to cover the strains that are circulating around the planet at a given time," Tiodorovic has told Kurir.

He recalled that all current vaccines are based on the original, Wuhan strain, which has not been circulating anywhere in the world for a long time.

"That is why pharmaceutical companies are racing to make new vaccines as soon as possible and be ready, by the fall at the latest, in order to better protect people from coronavirus," Dr. Tiodorovic said and added that Serbia will be among the first, as has been the case with the latest Covid drugs, to procure those vaccines.

In Serbia, the administering of the fourth dose has begun for all those who are immunocompromised, are elderly or have chronic diseases, as a result of which the vaccine's protective power is lower.

"And whoever wants to, can receive the fourth and fifth dose of the vaccine if they need it to enter some countries that do not recognize Russian or Chinese vaccines, which many of our citizens have received," said Tiodorovic.

Tiodorovic expects the situation with coronavirus to completely calm down starting in mid-May, and for us to  have a peaceful summer.
