It's now clear - SNS has majority in the Belgrade City Assembly

Future councilor in the Belgrade City Assembly from the Serb Coalition NADA and a member of the Movement for the Renewal of the Kingdom of Serbia (POKS) Vuk Stanic said today that he could not vote for mayoral candidates supported by Dragan Djilas, Vuk Jeremic and Marinika Tepic

In this way, he effectively announced support for the coalition gathered around the SNS, thus enabling it to have the majority in the City Assembly.

According to a statement issued by Stanic, he will independently decide who to support for the mayor of Belgrade, regardless of statements of political leaders and their possible agreements.

"I entered politics with the goal of saving our fatherland, so that our descendants can be as proud of it as we are, which is what the covenant of our glorious ancestors obligates us to do. I ran for the Belgrade City Assembly guided by these principles, and with the desire to, as a participant in the 1999 war, help and improve the position of war veterans, war invalids and families of heroes who died in the 1990-1999 wars," reads the statement issued by Vuk Stanic.

Therefore, as a patriot, and as someone who fought against the aggressors who attacked our people and our fatherland, "I cannot even imagine the possibility of politically supporting those who make the worst accusations against the Serb people and Serbia," he continued.

"I cannot vote and support those who accuse us of being a genocidal people, of being aggressors and war criminals, of Kosovo and Metohija being an independent state and who think Serbia should be a member of NATO. I would thus trample on the oath I gave to Serbia. I cannot vote for candidates supported by Dragan Djilas, Vuk Jeremic and Marinika Tepic," stated Stanic.

Based on preliminary results of the Belgrade elections, the SNS and the SPS have 56 councilors, while all other opposition parties together have 54.

The opposition has filed objections regarding voting at several polling stations and is trying to reach a deal that would provide it with the majority in the city's parliament.
