Rasim Ljajic, who was seriously injured on Sunday morning in a traffic accident on the Belgrade-Nis highway, is in a stable condition, but he is being monitored constantly.

"The patient is conscious and communicative and under constant supervision of the medical staff in the intensive care unit. During the day, the director of the University Clinical Center in Nis, Professor Dr. Zoran Perisic, visited him several times. The diagnostics carried out immediately after admission showed that the patient had injuries to the chest, ribs and head, but at this time his condition does not require intensive surgical treatment," the Nis hospital announced last night.

According to them, the diagnostic procedure will be repeated after 24 hours, because in such severe accidents, some injuries can develop later, which is why around-the-clock monitoring and repeated diagnostics are necessary.

"A council of doctors that was formed at the Clinic and will make a decision on how to best proceed in treating this patient. At this moment, he has absolutely stable vital parameters and his life is not in danger," the hospital said of the politician, who for many years served as a minister and deputy PM in Serbian governments.

The traffic accident occurred when a Skoda Superb driven by President of the SDPS party Executive Board Branko Gogic (45), which was traveling from Belgrade to Nis, broke through the protective fence on the highway near Razanj, overturned and landed on the roof. Gogic died on the spot and his body was found in the car by a medical team from the Healthcare Center in Razanj, while Ljajic was found outside the vehicle. Ljajic and Gogic had the accident while on their way to Turkey.
