Defense Minister Nebojsa Stefanovic said today that his ministry has formed working groups which are analyzing all segments related to the set task and the planning tof the possibility of reintroducing regular military service.

"I expect that in the next two weeks we will have a plan with complete analyses and the best solutions in terms of the financial aspect, training and recruitment and selection, which we will present to President Vucic," Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense Nebojsa Stefanovic told Telegraf.rs.

According to him, his personal position on this issue is already known.

"As the president (Aleksandar Vucic) said, Serbia is a militarily neutral country and as such I believe that it should have mandatory military service, just as Austria and Switzerland do. Its introduction would, above all, strengthen the defense capacities of our country," said Stefanovic.

He believes that it is important for young people to undergo training in military skills and to get acquainted with complex combat systems and other modern techniques, equipment and weapons that the Serbian Army has today, which he adds has not exactly been the case in previous decades.

He stresses that young people will not only be trained to be able can come to the aid of others at any time, but will also acquire skills and knowledge that will mean something to them, both in life and at work.

"Of course, the final decision will be made by the parliament, but I am deeply convinced both as the minister of defense and as someone who served his military service that it is extremely useful for young people and our country," says Stefanovic.
