President of Serbia Aleksandar Vucic is today paying a one-day visit to Belgium where he will attend a dinner in Brussels organized for the leaders of the Western Balkans by EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell.

On that occasion, President Vucic will have bilateral meetings with Borrell, and Oliver Varhelyi, EU commissioner for enlargement, the Serbian president's press office announced.

EU spokesman Peter Stano told Tanjug that this is a traditional dinner, organized once a year by the EU foreign policy chief, while diplomatic sources in Brussels specify that the focus will be on the war in Ukraine, i.e. the consequences of the "Russian aggression" on regional security, as well as the European economy.

Tanjug's sources say that there will also be talk about harmonizing the policies of the Western Balkan countries with EU's response to "the biggest security crisis on the European continent since the Second World War."

Before the joint dinner with the leaders of the Western Balkan six, which is planned for 9:30 pm, Vucic will meet with Borrell at around 8 pm.

In addition to the president of Serbia, the dinner in Brussels will be attended by President of Montenegro Milo Djukanovic, prime ministers of Albania and North Macedonia Edi Rama and Dimitar Kovacevski, as well as Chairman of the Council of Ministers of BiH Zoran Tegeltija.

Provisional institutions in Pristina will be represented by Foreign Minister Donika Gervala.

The tradition of organizing dinners with leaders from the Western Balkans was initiated by the former head of EU diplomacy, Federica Mogherini, as a way to encourage and improve cooperation within the region and the region with the EU.

At the end of the dinner, the leaders of the Western Balkans are planned to address the media in Brussels.
