Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs and Head of the Sector for Security Policy Dijana Ivancic said today that Serbia is striving to promote political stability and economic cooperation in the region.

She told the conference "The Importance of International Military Cooperation and the Contribution of Peacekeeping Operations to Establishing and Preserving Peace," organized by the Center for Geostrategic Research and Terrorism, that today Serbia is positioned in the international community as a responsible and credible partner that promotes peace and security globally and regionally.

Ivancic recalled that the strategic directions of Serbia are preservation of its territorial integrity and sovereignty, regional cooperation, as well as the EU path.

"Today, Serbia has established itself as an exporter of security. It respects interests and choices of its neighbors and expects its interests to be respected as well," said Ivancic.

She pointed out that Serbia is pursuing its own foreign policy based on international public law and safeguarding its own interests.

"Serbia is building new friendships and is not forgetting old ones. Our goal is to be future-oriented, but we are also ready to resolve issues from the past," said Ivancic and added that Serbia is committed to constructive dialogue when it comes to open issues.

She also pointed out that Serbia is militarily neutral and does not aspire to join NATO or other military alliances, but sees room for further improvement of cooperation with NATO through the Partnership for Peace program.

"The key to regional stability is good relations with neighbors. Serbia is trying to promote political stability and economic prosperity in the region, and we confirmed that with the Open Balkans initiative," Ivancic told the conference that was opened by the president of the Center for Geostrategic Research and Terrorism, Vlade Radulovic.

The defense envoys from the French and Hungarian embassies also addressed the gathering.
