Several opposition parties in the Serbian National Assembly have announced that they will call on citizens to take part in a protest on September 17, if EuroPride is banned on that day.

This was confirmed for the daily Danas by representatives of the Democratic Party, the movement Ne Davimo Beograd, the Movement of Free Citizens (PSG), which is part of the parliamentary group, "Party of Freedom and Justice - United," and the parliamentary group Moramo.

Ne Davimo Beograd deputy Radomir Lazovic believes that EuroPride should be held and that if the gathering of the LGBT population, and their protest is banned, the same can happen, according to him, if there is a protest against some social problems, such as poverty and pollution.

"We want to fight for all our citizens, regardless of religious, national and sexual orientation, to have the same rights guaranteed by the Constitution," says Lazovic.

Moramo deputy Aleksandar Jovanovic Cuta says that he will support "everything that is healthy" i.e. that he will stand behind every basic human right that is threatened and reiterated that he will call on citizens to protest if EuroPride is not held on September 17.

"Those organizing EuroPride in Belgrade without giving it any thought have created a huge sh*tshow in our society, bearing in mind the deep divisions. And now they want to ban what they are responsible for," said Cuta.

Dragana Rakic from the Democratic Party recalled that President of Serbia Aleksandar Vucic announced that EuroPride was canceled on the same day that he made Ana Brnabic, who is a member of the LGBT population, the PM-designate.

"It sounds absurd, but the fact is that during this time the prime minister has not done anything to make the life of members of the LGBT population easier and safer," Rakic told Danas.
