The best tennis player in the world, Novak Djokovic, has submitted documentation and applied for a special permit to enter the US in order to play at the Masters in Indian Wells and Miami, his brother Djordje has told Tanjug.

"This is something that is unfortunately out of our hands, Novak has to get a special permit, considering that the US still does not allow entry of people who are unvaccinated (for Covid), which is simply incredible because the whole world is open and sports events around the world are held with participation of vaccinated and unvaccinated athletes," said Djokovic.

"Novak has submitted all the necessary documentation, an application, while the directors at the tournaments in Indian Wells and Miami have publicly stated that those tournaments need him and that they want him there," he added.

"There are only a few more days left until the decision is made and we can only hope for a positive outcome," said Djordje Djokovic.

The brother of the world's best tennis player stressed that everyone in the family is proud of the way Novak won his 10th title in Melbourne, despite all the problems he faced in the last year and a half.

He also added that Novak has already slowly started training and that he hopes to win as many titles as possible this year, regardless of whether he will play in the US.

When it comes to organizing the Serbia Open, which will be held in Banja Luka this year, Djordje Djokovic said that preparations are in full swing, that a new stadium and a new boulevard have been built within the complex.

"We are expecting a large number of tennis players from the Top 10 and Top 20. We will soon announce their names," said Djordje Djokovic.
