President Aleksandar Vucic on Friday morning held an unscheduled news conference in the wake of a terrorist attack that took place last night near the Belgrade municipality of Mladenovac, when eight people were killed and 14 were wounded.

"This morning I suggested to the prime minister that we should reintroduce the death penalty. I, too, used to be against the death penalty. I bitterly regret having had such a political stance," said Vucic.

The Mladenovac shooting suspect, a 21-year-old, has no prior convictions, however, he was reported for violence before and was considered a problematic young man. Allegedly, his father is in the military.

During the press conference, Vucic also explained the symbolism of a t-shirt the suspect was wearing when he was arrested this morning - which had the words "Generation 88 on tour" and a map of a part of southwestern Europe printed on it.

"The monster that killed people near Mladenovac was wearing a tribute to Hitler. Scumbag. If you didn't know, 'generation 88' is a salute to Hitler. He kept repeating insults as he was being arrested."
