Postanska Banka not buying Prva Banka Crne Gore: No acquisition negotiations

Regarding the information published by some media that Banka (bank) Postanska Stedionica is interested in buying Prva banka Crne Gore ("First Bank of Montenegro"), we have received confirmed that these statements are not correct.

Namely, there have been no negotiations about a possible acquisition.

"The bank Postanska Stedionica, thanks to the economic and financial stability in the Republic of Serbia in the first half of 2023, as in previous years, continues to achieve business results above those planned, to benefit of clients and the state of Serbia," announced Postanska Stedionica.

The president of Serbia also touched on this.

Vucic: Notorious falsehood

Aleksandar Vucic said today that the allegations that Postanska Stedionica bank will buy Prva Banka are untrue.

"When it comes to the acquisition of Prva banka, which is owned by (family of ex Montenegrin President) Djukanovic, by Postanska Stedionica, it is a notorious lie. We are used to such untruths in Srbija," Vucic said during a joint press conference in Belgrade today with his Montenegrin counterpart Jakov Milatovic.

Speaking about the possibility of introducing direct payment transactions between Serbia and Montenegro, Vucic said that this is an important issue and one of the obstacles in the development of business and economic relations between the two countries.

"I don't want to talk about who's to blame for that, but I just want you to know that it's completely clean on our side. This is about something else. The largest number of corresponding banks in Montenegro are from Switzerland and Germany, so they want to work on that. It has been functioning here for 15 years with Bosnia and Herzegovina, where the currency is the convertible mark. According to the principle of international clearing, there is no problem there," said Vucic.
