Driver arrested after causing accident, fleeing the scene and leaving young man to die

The police in Jagodina and Svilajnac arrested D.B. (28) from Petrovac-na-Mlavi on suspicion that he committed a serious crime against public traffic safety, and failed to provide assistance to a person injured in a traffic accident.

D.B. is suspected that he last night after midnight, while driving on the Svilajnac-Petrovac-na-Mlavi road, in the village of Bobovo, swerved into the opposite lane with his Citroen and hit a Skoda, that had a 26-year-old man behind the wheel.

In this traffic accident, another 26-year-old, a passenger in the Citroen. fell out of the car and died, while a young woman of the same age who was also in the car suffered serious injuries.

The driver of the Skoda and his 29-year-old passenger sustained minor injured.

After the crash, the suspect fled the scene, and the police soon found and arrested him.

He is now being detained for up to 48 hours, after which he will be brought before a prosecutor along with a criminal complaint.
