Director of the Office for Kosovo and Metohija Petar Petkovic met today with Ambassador of Great Britain to Serbia Edward Ferguson, and told him that the Serbs in Kosovo and Metohija face political disenfranchisement, constant attacks and attempts to get subjugated to Pristina by forceful and undemocratic means.

At the very beginning of the conversation, according to a statement issued by the Office, Petkovic said that he was worried about Pristina's decision to stop payments between Kosovo and Metohija and central Serbia from February 1 and abolish the dinar as a means of payment in the province, pointing out that this is a special kind of pressure that would certainly lead to the Serb population moving out of Kosovo and Metohija.

"This decision also leads to the annulment of all the agreements reached so far, including the agreement on the formation of the Community of Serb Municipalities (ZSO), which in its structure is based on institutions that function in the dinar payments system, the only legal currency in Kosovo," Petkovic stressed.

According to him, this is a dangerous unilateral move by Albin Kurti, which is not only a political, but above all a social and humanitarian problem with catastrophic consequences.

The director of the Office for Kosovo and Metohija also informed his interlocutor about the fact that Serbs have submitted signed petitions for the removal of illegitimate mayors and councilors in the north of Kosovo and Metohija and that they expect this problem to be resolved as soon as possible.

"The fake mayors and councilors got elected with 3.5 percent of the vote, and now more than the required number of signatures have been collected for their sackings, that is, (signatures) from more than 20 percent of the total number of registered voters," said Petkovic.

According to Petkovic, Serbs and Albanians cannot resolve their disagreements over Kosovo and Metohija in any other way than through dialogue, which Belgrade will continue to work on in a dedicated manner.

However, he stressed, the process of normalization is under a big question mark, bearing in mind the fact that Albin Kurti is creating crises, incidents and violence against Serbs each day.
