The constitutive session of the assembly of the provisional institutions of Pristina was interrupted today for the thirteenth time, as the deputies again failed to accept the proposal of the Self Determination party to hold a secret vote to elect the president of the assembly.

56 deputies voted in favor of a secret ballot.

The continuation of the session is scheduled for May 11.

During the previous four times that the session had resumed, Self Determination demanded a secret vote for the president of the assembly, but the opposition Democratic Alliance of Kosovo, the Democratic Party of Kosovo and the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo, as well as the Serb List, refused to enable this by providing members to a commission supposed to oversee such a vote.

Self-Determination insists that the party's candidate should be Albulena Haxhiu, but during the previous six attempts, she never received more than 57 votes out of the 61 necessary.

The Democratic Party of Kosovo and the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo have repeatedly asked Self-Determination to propose a different candidate, while the Democratic Alliance of Kosovo announced that it will not vote for any Self-Determination candidate.

The constitutive session of the assembly of the provisional Pristina institutions started on April 15.

In the February 9 elections, Self-Determination won 48 seats, the Democratic Party of Kosovo 24, the Democratic Alliance of Kosovo 20, the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo and the Nisma initiative eight, the Serb List nine, the Party for Freedom, Justice and Survival one, while the remaining 10 seats were distributed to representatives of other non-majority communities.
