Serbian power company EPS is ready to lay foundations for principles of financing projects in region

Elektroprivreda Srbije (EPS) is a company that carries energy transition, not only in Serbia, but also beyond, has the capacity and is ready to impose the "rules of the game" and lay the foundations for the principles of financing projects in the region, the EPS general director, Dusan Zivkovic, said today during the International Scientific and Professional Forum "Western Balkans in Energy Transition" held at the Serbian Chamber of Commerce.

"Financing the energy transition, which is our reality, is a challenge we are already facing. The sustainability of the transition through the CBAM and ETS mechanisms, which should facilitate the financing of the transition process, is not and will not be simple, and I believe that a third financing mechanism will be sought in order to provide the region with a sustainable and fair transition," stressed Zivkovic.

During the panel discussion "Energy transition of the electric industry in the region" he recalled that Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Montenegro currently have around 6,000 MW from fossil fuels and that the replacement of these capacities must imply good regional cooperation and coordinated activities, the EPS said in a statement.

The forum brought together participants of the INITIATE international project, about "Supporting European R&I through stakeholder cooperation and institutional reform."

The project is implemented within the Horizon Europe program, and the goal is to improve the overall research and innovation capacities of scientific institutions in the field of green energy and digital transition.
