President Vucic addresses the nation: There will be elections, here's when
President of Serbia Aleksandar Vucic is participating in the meeting of the European Political Community in Tirana. Leaders of more than 40 European countries are participating in the summit.
Vucic on Friday addressed the nation from Tirana:
"Last night we had an important meeting with Costa, Von der Leyen, Tusk, which was great and I thank him, as well as with Kaja Kallas. It lasted a long time, almost three hours. I believe that there is a chance to do certain things, and to reawaken hope in a European future," said the president, and also touched on the situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH):
"I am afraid that the situation in BiH is not good. This is not something that will bring good to Bosnia and Herzegovina. This is the halting of the will of democratic processes, and imposing the will of one man."
As for those organizing and taking part in blockades in Serbia, Vucic stated that he has not received a single demand in writing.
"They did not contact 'the competent institution' (himself). As far as radicalization is concerned, the fewer there are, the more nervous they get. Now we have seen that it's all just about politics, I told you back in December that they will not accept anything. So it's pure politics, color revolution, and now we've come to the point that they want to create municipal committees at faculties, which is against the law," he said and added:
"There will be elections in the next year and a half, when the competent institution makes a decision about it. What they are announcing is radicalization, harassing the people. What is important is to invite people to Nis, to the big rally. They were announcing violence, but you can't scare a free person. I'm, sure that this kind of Serbia will win. All other speakers except me will be from Nis. Many local governments from the south of Serbia will be represented."
The 6th meeting of the European Political Community gathers leaders from all over Europe - 27 EU members and 20 non-member states.
It is the first time that a Western Balkan country hosts the summit, while the theme of the meeting is "New Europe in the new world: unity - cooperation - joint action."
A statement published on the website of the Tirana meeting assesses that it taking place in the Western Balkans signifies not only a symbolic recognition of the place of Southeastern Europe in European politics, but also a strategic investment in the role of the region in shaping the future of the continent.
