Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic met today with representatives of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) led by IMF mission head in Serbia, Annette Kyobe.

They discussed macroeconomic developments and continuation of reforms necessary for the stable growth of Serbia's economy.

"A good and constructive meeting with the IMF delegation and Annette Kyobe, whom I congratulated on her appointment as the new head of this mission in Serbia. We talked about macroeconomic developments and continuation of reforms that are crucial for the stable growth of our economy. I am grateful to the IMF Mission for its understanding and support for the plans to increase salaries and pensions in the coming year, which will certainly have a positive impact on increasing standard of living of our citizens," Vucic stated in a post on his Instagram account.

The president added that during the conversation he emphasized that Serbia remains committed to comprehensive cooperation with the IMF, since its priority goal is to preserve its hard-earned reputation as a fiscally responsible state and to achieve higher growth than projected despite the challenges in the country and the surroundings.

According to Vucic, he informed his interlocutors about the events in Serbia that have affected a slowdown of economic growth.

"I stressed that we remain focused on maintaining stability, especially regarding GDP growth and keeping inflation within targets. I proudly pointed out that our hard currency reserves are still at a record level, as well as that we believe in a new strong inflow of foreign investments, while maintaining a solid banking sector," stated the president.

Vucic added that primary goals such as fiscal policy discipline, reduction of public debt and keeping the budget deficit under control are being worked on even more, in order to preserve fiscal safety and continue to strengthen the economy.

"That is why we are continuing with reforms in the field of public finances, while working on expanding the portfolio for investments in the most advanced technologies, green energy and digitization, where we also expect the support of the IMF," concluded Vucic.
