A close associate of US President Donald Trump, special envoy Richard Grenell, reacted in a post on X to Vjosa Osmani's claims that Trump was referring to recent events when he spoke about preventing conflict between Pristina and Belgrade.

The president of the provisional institutions in Pristina said that this was "not about old events, but very recent developments."

"Shame on Vjosa Osmani for manipulating President Donald Trump's words," Grenell wrote, and added:

"Donald Trump was nominated for a Nobel Peace Prize for his work on Kosovo-Serbia peace and economic normalization in 2019 and 2020 - through the Trump White House signing of the Washington Agreement in the Oval Office. Osmani wasn't a part of that deal. And pretending like there was something new is absurd."

Minister of Foreign Affairs Marko Djuric also reacted to Osmani's statement earlier in the day on Sunday:

"It is certainly true that President Donald Trump achieved something important with the Washington Agreement from 2020. Serbia accepted his vision — stability through trade and economic growth.

Unfortunately, Pristina did not respect the spirit of that agreement. It refuses to accept President Trump's approach of building peace through economic cooperation.

Even worse, Vjosa Osmani decided to manipulate President Trump's words and make false accusations against Serbia. Unfortunately, manipulation and fabrication seem to be the only way for Osmani and Pristina to get attention in Washington today.

Fortunately, our American friends know the truth. Serbia remains committed to advancing numerous common interests with the United States - both in the Balkans and globally, including the Middle East.

President Trump's vision is also our vision. Serbia strives for peace through increased trade, economic growth and regional cooperation.

We hope that President Trump will be able to convince other actors in the Balkans to embrace this vision — because it is the key to solving the region's challenges."
