Serbian government adopts important proposal, Macut immediately reacts: This is a historic decision!

The Serbian Government today adopted the Draft Law on Amendments to the Law on Textbooks, and Prime Minister Djuro Macut stated that the adoption of that draft is a historic decision for our country, our children and society as a whole.

Prime Minister Macut assessed that the adoption of the bill is a victory for knowledge, national responsibility and Serbia's sovereign right to educate its children according to its own values and standards, the Government of Serbia said in a statement.

The prime minister stressed that putting the key teaching subjects back in the hands of domestic authors and publishers is not only a legal change, but a civilizational message that Serbia has the strength, will and ability to independently shape its education and future.

Macut also stated that the decision to amend the Law on Textbooks from the very beginning encountered many obstructions and pressure from those for whom the interests of foreign centers of power and profit are more important than the future of our children.

Macut pointed out that all those who think they can submit young people in Serbia to their will and personal interests are deeply mistaken.

He stated that today, Serbia stands tall and resolute in its inten to protect what is most valuable, namely knowledge, identity and self-confidence of young generations.

The prime minister especially thanked President of the Republic Aleksandar Vucic for his support, understanding and strong vision, and former Prime Minister Milos Vucevic, who initiated the adoption of this legal solution, indicating that they recognized how important it is for textbooks of national importance to be in the hands of domestic authors and publishers.

"This is a joint success of all of us who believe in a Serbia that knows what it wants, knows how to fight for itself and does not give up on what is right," said Macut.

The prime minister also noted that the building of an education system that will not be subject to external influences, but the foundation of a strong, smart and free Serbia, will continue.
