This is how terrible tragedy was prevented in Kragujevac; Mayor: 11 minutes that saved lives

A real drama took place last night in the Kragujevac settlement of Erdec when M. J. (40) from Valjevo fired from an automatic rifle in the direction of a family home.

Thanks to the quick reaction of the police, the shooter was overpowered and arrested, while several weapons and ammunition were found in his possession, including an automatic rifle, a bomb, knives, and an axe.

Thanks to the effective action of the police, a tragedy was prevented.

"I am sincerely grateful to, and congratulate the members of the Ministry of Internal Affairs in Kragujevac for their very quick, brave and professional intervention, thanks to which a person who fired from a firearm last night in a populated part of the city got arrested in a record time of 11 minutes. A timely reaction and exceptional coordination on the ground prevented a possible tragedy and ensured the safety of citizens," said the mayor of Kragujevac, Nikola Dasic.

He added that this was an example of defending the public order, peace and security of all citizens in a responsible, professional and dedicated manner.

The police and the prosecutor's office are continuing to work to shed light on all the circumstances of this event.

The incident in Erdec involved the shooter who came to confront his former in-laws.

According to initial information, the former son-in-law appeared in the yard of his ex-wife's family home and started shooting, leaving the family and the neighbors in shock and fear.

The shooting echoed through the neighborhood, and the police was immediately called.

"Bursts of fire were heard, it just rang out! The police showed up in literally a matter of minutes, kudos to them," said one eyewitness.
