The Office for Kosovo and Metohija announced today that political courts of the prime minister of the provisional institutions of Pristina, Albin Kurti, continue to issue draconian unlawful and political verdicts against Serbs.

These rulings, the Office said, are are not based on evidence, credible witnesses, law or justice, but solely on the ethnicity of the people on trial, with the aim of retaliating against the Serbs.

That is why the Office is once again urging international missions to act according to their mandates and ensure respect for the basic rights of Serbs and prevent any kind of physical and institutional persecution of them.

The last in a series of such unfounded verdicts is the one that was handed down today against Milos Pleskovic from Prizren, who was sentenced to 15 years in prison, while no credible witness linked him to the commission of a crime, as well as that he was 19 years old at that time, and had been traveling to Prizren without any problems after the events he is accused of, but the alleged witnesses recognized him as the supposed perpetrator 24 years later.

"His family, like thousands of Serbs, was forcibly expelled from their home in Prizren in 1999, when this town was completely ethnically cleansed of Serbs, and today's verdict is a message to all of them that they must not return to their homes and not even think about it because they will be arrested and convicted for the most serious crimes without any concrete evidence," the statement said.

It added that in previous days, a similar verdict, based on no evidence, logical connection or witnesses, was handed down to three Serbs from the north of the province of Kosovo and Metohija, as well as that 10 days ago, the assistant director of the Office for Kosovo and Metohija, Igor Popovic, was arrested because he told the truth about the killings and kidnappings of Serbs.

"This is the image of the judiciary in Pristina, which only serves to judge and sentence Serbs with draconian punishments, rather than respect any rule of law. The basic human rights of Serbs are violated by such political and unlawful judgments, including the right to a fair trial, which is also guaranteed by international conventions," the Office stated.
