National Assembly of Serbia President Ana Brnabic said today that the verdict against President of the Serb Republic (RS) Milorad Dodik issued for a verbal offense is undemocratic, anti-civilizational and disgraceful.

"You can like or dislike Milorad Dodik, but put that aside. The verdict for a verbal offense is undemocratic and anti-civilizational. No one who says, 'we are democrats, we want the rule of law', can support that verdict. It is disgraceful. Well, imagine if we handed down verdicts for verbal offenses here in Serbia? If anyone in the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia went, 'you are not allowed to say that'," Brnabic said while appearing on TV Pink.

She noted that this is not done in a democratic society.

The appellate panel of the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina confirmed last week the first-instance verdict against RS Milorad Dodik.

Dodik was sentenced to one year in prison and a six-year ban on political activity for disobeying decisions made by the international representative in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Christian Schmidt.
