Members of the Traffic Police Administration of the Serbian Interior Ministry, MUP, recorded 31,819 violations related to speeding during a week of increased traffic control.

The operation that was carried out from August 4 to 10 simultaneously in 34 European countries, members of ROADPOL (Network of European Traffic Police Forces) - aimed at detecting speeding violations. 3,443 of those were committed in pedestrian crossing zones in Serbia during this period of time.

There were also an additional 7,477 traffic violations of other types.

The most egregious case happened on the Belgrade-Simanovci stretch of the highway, where the police stopped and excluded from traffic a 41-year-old man who drove an Audi at 225.9 kilometers per hour.

The speed limit on this part of the highway is 100 kilometers per hour.

A misdemeanor charge has been filed against the man for aggressive driving.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs is once again pointing out that improper speed is still the biggest traffic safety problem in our country, bearing in mind that almost half of all accidents that result in casualties are caused by speeding.
