A gruesome murder took place last night in the village of Junkovac near Topola, when Miroslav G. (46) was beaten to death in front of the people who gathered for a cook-off festival, and according to eyewitnesses, everything happened in just a few moments.

Locals say that Miroslav was in a good mood, in the company of the winning team, and after the competition, some of the participants stayed on to hang out. However, what is described as provocations and curses soon started, followed by an argument that turned into a fight.

According to eyewitnesses, the fight started when one of the attackers punched Miroslav in the head. He immediately fell to the ground as the shocked crowd watched the drama unfolded before them.

"Things got out of control when one of the suspects got up and attacked Miroslav. He punched him in the head. Miroslav just fell, there was blood all over his face," said one of the eyewitnesses.

He added that those present tried to help the victim as he was still alive, but died on the way to the hospital.

"I will never be able to forget that, we literally watched a life extinguish, we tried preventing him from suffocating on his tongue, he was showing signs of life, but he died on the way to the hospital," the eyewitness said.

The locals claim that Miroslav was not a competitor at the event, where participants cooked goulash and beans, but was there with a friend whose team won that day, and that the motive for the attack is still not clear to them, because there was no known conflict between the victim and the suspects.

"I don't believe that the motive for the attack could have been jealousy or resentment over losing because Miroslav was not a competitor. I don't know why someone would hate him so much to kill him," the eyewitness said.

The police have arrested two suspects, M.M. (44) and M.T. (34), whom the locals claim are not from Junkovac, while one of the suspects claim that they did not attack first and that the victim provoked them.

The organizers of the event and the villagers say that the tragedy clearly cast a shadow over it, instead of providing an opportunity for socializing and having fun.

"Unfortunately, now everyone will remember this gathering for the bad thing that happened, not for the fun and music. The murder will now remain etched in everyone's memory, the village is stunned and we won't be able to recover for a long time," said one of the locals.
