Details of major drug haul in Belgrade: Cannabis worth millions hidden in sacks and bags in parking lot

Igor I. (47) and Mile S. (28) were questioned today in the Higher Public Prosecutor's Office (VJT) in Belgrade, on suspicion that they were in possession of almost 2 tons of cannabis when they were caught on August 19.

The drugs were meant to be sold in the territory of Belgrade's Zemun municipality.

During the hearing, the suspects decided not to make any statements, that is, they used their legal right not to present a defense.

Afterwards, the prosecution asked the preliminary proceedings judge from the Higher Court in Belgrade to keep the suspects in custody, considering they might repeat the crime in a short period of time.

According to the investigation order, the suspects are charged with one criminal offense of unauthorized production and distribution of narcotic drugs.

Igor I. and Mile S. got arrested on August 19 while in possession of 1.95 tons of cannabis.

First, a police officer spotted a Renault driven by Mile S. which stopped in a parking lot in front of a retirement home.

The suspect got out of the vehicle, approached a cargo vehicle he had stopped by, unlocked it and took out three black travel bags and one black sack, which he put in the Renault, after which he drove to the parking area in Partizanske Avijacije Street, where he met with Igor I., who had arrived there in a Skoda.

Together, they transferred the travel bags into Igor I.'s car, and then Mile S. dropped the black sack between the vehicles, which is when and where he was detained by police officers.

Mile S. disobeyed the order to surrender and tried to run away, but was soon located and brought in.

While searching Igor I.'s car, the officers found a total of 49 plastic vacuum bags with a total net weight of 49,051.45 grams of cannabis.

In Igor I.'s vehicle, which was left in the parking lot, a key to a Fiat van was found, which the police quickly located. In it, the discovered a further 1,000 packages containing a total of 951,846.49 grams of cannabis.

While checking the vehicle from which Mile S. originally took some of the bags, the officers discovered 48 black travel bags, 11 red mesh bags and 8 black bags, which contained 888 packages with a total of 885,531.36 grams of cannabis.
