SNS parliamentary group chief reacts to protest and arrests: Everyone who attacked police will be punished

The head of the parliamentary group of the Serbian Progressive Party, SNS, in the Serbian National Assembly, Milenko Jovanov, said today that those who took part in a protest last night in front of the the Faculty of Philosophy in Novi Sad showed that their "manifesto" consists of nothing but violence.
Jovanov stressed that it is good that the police are arresting people who attack them and pointed out that the man who snatched a riot shield from an officer last night during the protest appears to have also been arrested.
"One of them stole a shield, I believe he got arrested. Well, they should be getting arrested. As for the (legal) proceedings, they should be conducted. I don't like what the courts are doing either, they release (detained protesters) pending the outcome, and there are grounds to keep them detained. I deeply believe they should be in custody," he told TV Pink.
According to Jovanov, regardless of whether people arrested for attacking the police are in custody or released while the processes are ongoing, they will eventually be punished.
"Regardless of whether they are in custody or under house arrest or released pending the outcome of the proceedings, those proceedings are being conducted and they will be convicted in those proceedings. But, all the masks have slipped and we see that these have been politically motivated protests from the start," said the head of the ruling SNS party's parliamentary group.
