First photos of horrible Belgrade fire: Darko dies in front of building, his wife and son in serious condition

Darko P. (55) died in a fire that broke out in a building in Sremcica, a Belgrade neighborhood, two hours after midnight this morning, while firefighters managed to rescue five people!

His body has been sent for an autopsy by order of the Higher Public Prosecutor's Office.

According to eyewitnesses, the fire broke out in an apartment owned by B.G. (49) on the second floor and very quickly spread to the third, where the family of three lived. Because of the smoke and the flames they were trapped until the firefighters arrived!

"The breaking of the glass woke us up. The whole building was in smoke. Flames could be seen from the apartment on the second floor! Neighbor Darko died in front, while his wife and son had to be resuscitated. They inhaled smoke. We hear that his son is not doing well at the VMA (clinic)," the residents of the building in this Belgrade neighborhood say.

This morning, the building where the terrible fire broke out smells of charred material. The windows are broken, there is glass is everywhere.

How huge the flame was is evident  by the fact that it engulfed two verticals, i.e. the side of the building where there are only windows and the back one where there are balconies.

"We were all shocked and still are. My sister-in-law called the fire brigade," a visibly shaken neighbor tells us.

Some who live in this building in Zila Verna Street and were not affected by the fire and the smoke still had to seek medical assistance for shock.
