First meeting between Consul General of Serbia in New York and commissioner of that city

Consul General of Serbia in New York Vladimir Bozovic has held the first official meeting with Commissioner for International Affairs of New York City Aissata M.B. Camara.
The meeting took place in a constructive atmosphere, with mutual recognition of the importance of strengthening bilateral cooperation and improving Serbia's visibility in the international diplomatic community, the consulate's announcement stated.
Commissioner Camara expressed her satisfaction that she would, in her capacity, continue to support initiatives that contribute to the development of diplomatic activities in the city.
Consul General Bozovic presented several proposals for joint projects and activities.
Special emphasis was placed on preserving and promoting the legacy of scientist Nikola Tesla as one of the greatest minds of humankind - including initiatives for joint programs that would further inform the wider US and world public about Tesla's life and work.
One of the proposals was to erect a monument to Nikola Tesla in Manhattan.
Commissioner Camara fully supported the continuation of the dialogue and expressed the city's readiness to provide institutional support to that initiative.
She stressed that Tesla is an "icon of New York and humanity in general", as well as a symbol of science and innovation, whose work has global significance, not only for Serbia, but also because it enabled cities like New York to become centers of modern technology and innovation.
Bozovic expressed deep concern over the death of American patriot Charles Kirk, who was a longtime friend of Serbia, and strongly condemned all forms of politically motivated violence.
It was suggested that, in cooperation with the Society of Foreign Consuls in New York, a commemorative event would be organized.
Bozovic also called for further development of the panel for mental health and it was agreed that, in cooperation with the city administration, a new cycle of public discussions and educational panels would be launched.
In addition, Bozovic welcomed the initiative of the city of New York to support the diplomatic community in understanding administrative changes, procedures and support related to immigrants.
Camara stated that she highly values and follows Bozovic's engagement and his role in strengthening diplomatic and cultural ties between Serbia and the United States.
