Marko Djuric: Strengthening of political dialogue and economic cooperation between Serbia and Cyprus

Foreign Minister Marko Djuric is in New York for the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly, and while there he spoke with his Cypriot counterpart Constantinos Kombos.

Djuric pointed out that Serbia attaches special importance to intensifying and deepening relations and cooperation with Cyprus, and that this year marks the 65th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

The minister stressed that in the coming period, Serbia wants to continue with intensive political dialogue and visits, while opinions were also exchanged regarding current global issues of importance for both sides, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement.

Marko Djuric thanked Cyprus for its continuous support to Serbia in the process of EU integration and expressed his belief that this support will continue in the future, especially during Cyprus' presidency of the EU Council.

The miister particularly emphasized that Serbia highly values the consistent and principled support that Cyprus provides for the preservation of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Serbia and added that Serbia at the same time provides full and unreserved support for the preservation of the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Cyprus, in line with the principles of the UN Charter and relevant resolutions of the UN Security Council.

Djuric also said that Serbia is interested in further improving economic cooperation, especially regarding trade, and encouraged the Cypriot business community to invest in Serbia.

The foreign minister is participating in the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly, which will last until September 26.

Djuric will have a series of bilateral and multilateral meetings with foreign ministers and officials from UN member states, and will participate in accompanying events that will be organized during the general debate of the UN General Assembly, the Serbian Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced.
