Health Minister Loncar: State to pay expenses for Serbians who need to get organ transplants in Belarus

Minister of Health Zlatibor Loncar spoke today in Minsk with his Belarus counterpart Aleksandr Khodzhayev about the possibilities for cooperation between the two countries in the field of organ transplantation.

The Ministry of Health said the Belarus side achieves enviable results in the field of organ transplantation, while in Serbia, despite the significant increase in the number of donors this year, there is still a waiting list.

It was agreed during the meeting that Serbians will be able to get organ transplants in Belarus at the expense of the Serbian state and that expert teams will be formed as soon as possible on both sides and work closely together to make this cooperation as good and efficient as possible.

The legal framework for this type of cooperation, the ministry stated, will be provided through the memorandum of understanding which the two ministers signed today in Minsk.

Minister Loncar also learned about the work, capacities and way of functioning of the prestigious state institution Minsk Scientific and Practical Center for Surgery, Transplantology and Hematology, where most transplants are performed in Belarus and where Serbians will, going forward, be able to get this type of medical procedure.

Loncar is on an official working visit to Belarus at the invitation of Khodzhayev, and during the meeting with the Belarus minister and his aides, he had the opportunity to get acquainted with the details regarding the healthcare system of Belarus, as well as with their plans and priorities in the coming period.

During his one-day stay in Minsk, the Serbian health minister had the exceptional opportunity to meet with Metropolitan of Minsk and Zaslavl Veniamin, Patriarchal Exarch of All Belarus, who strongly supports the program of organ donation and transplantation.
