President of Serbia Aleksandar Vucic said today that Belgrade is happy that Budapest was chosen to host a summit between the presidents of Russia and the United States, Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump.

"When it comes to that summit, a long and serious analysis is needed. Ukraine is the dominant topic. The good news is that peace is being discussed, and as soon as peace is discussed, there is a chance that it will happen. I am happy that Hungary was chosen to host that meeting, but I am not sure that other European centers will be as happy about that as Belgrade is. The choice of Budapest is no accident," Vucic told reporters as he toured construction works on the Iriski Venac tunnel.

The president of Serbia added that in the coming days, he expects the "liberal, left-wing America" and certain European countries to exert pressure in a bid to prevent the summit from taking place.

Vucic also said that he expects other matters apart from Ukraine to be discussed at that summit, primarily regarding the new energy map of the world and how global powers will divide it.

The president also remarked that he is not sure that Europe will be given a key role.

Vucic noted that he learned from Chinese friends that a problem cannot be solved by someone threatening others and others obeying, because then anger accumulates under the surface - alluding to the relationship between the US and India regarding the supply of Russian gas.

Vucic announced that he will meet with Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban on Monday or Wednesday, and that it remains to be decided whether the meeting will take place in Budapest or Belgrade.

According to the president, Serbia now has certain requests to make, especially after the US imposed sanctions against Petroleum Industry of Serbia (NIS).
