Osmani sets December 28 as date for early elections in Kosovo and Metohija

President of Pristina's provisional institutions Vjosa Osmani announced on Thursday that she has set December 28 as the date for holding snap parliamentary elections in Kosovo and Metohija.

Osmani told a press conference that she ruled out December 21, stating that the election commission needs time for preparations, and that she estimated that December 28 remained the only possible date, Pristina media are reporting.

According to these reports, eight parties were in favor of elections being held on December 28, five parties wanted the 21st, while either date suited three parties.

Osmani also said that January 11 had been ruled out.

After Wednesday's failure of the Assembly in Pristina to elect a government in the second attempt, the Assembly was dissolved by Osmani, who said she did that because of "a lack of political will (to form a government)."

According to the so-called constitution of the provisional institutions in Kosovo and Metohija, unless a government is elected in two attempta, new elections are called, which must be held within 40 days.
