Eyes of saints scratched on desecrated icons: What new Serb mayor in Zvecan found after Albanians left!

A member of the Presidency of the Serb List List, Igor Simic, said that the newly elected mayor of Zvecan, Dragisa Milovic and the councilors who entered the Zvecan municipality building on Friday, found terrible scenes, especially in the rooms that were used by members of the special units of the Kosovo police, adding that icons kept in the building were desecrated.

Simic published photos of the icons on social media, showing the eyes of saints scratched and added that garbage was found in the premises of the municipality, that the offices were vandalized and that valuable works of art were also destroyed.

"What particularly horrified all our representatives were the desecrated icons, thrown on the floor, with the eyes of the saints scratched. Why???," Simovic asked in his Instagram post.

The new mayor of northern Kosovska Mitrovica, Milan Radojevic said on Saturday today that his colleagues in four municipalities in the north of Kosovo and Metohija, after taking over from the Albanian mayors, found the municipal buildings in a catastrophic state because things of exceptional value disappeared, while Orthodox icons were desecrated.

Radojevic told TV Prva that this shows the attitude Pristina has towards the Serb people and the citizens in these four municipalities.

In Kosovo and Metohija, the assemblies of nine municipalities with a Serb majority were constituted on Friday, and the newly elected mayors from the Serb List List took office.

This includes the four municipalities in the north where Albanian mayors were elected in April 2023 when only 3.5 percent of registered voters turned out, in elections held after representatives of the Serbs left the provisional institutions due to Pristina's unilateral and escalating moves and non-compliance with agreements.

While Albanian mayors were at the head of the local self-governments in the north of Kosovo and Metohija, Serbian institutions were driven out from their premises, street names were changed, signs with names of settlements printed in Cyrillic were removed and those with names in Albanian first, and then under them in Serbian transliterated to Latin - often with typos.
