"24-hour postponement" Pristina to implement law on foreigners and vehicles starting on Friday
Pristina will apply the laws on foreigners and vehicles starting from midnight, that is, from January 16, unless the provisional institutions make a different decision. This is according to the deputy director of the so-called Kosovo police for the northern region Veton Elsani, who spoke for Radio Kontakt Plus.
This means that the implementation of these decisions has effectively been delayed by 24 hours, because it was previously announced by Pristina that this would happen on January 15.
According to the provisional institutions' law on traffic, using a vehicle with authorization is treated as a traffic violation, and according to the law on foreigners, everyone who does not have documents issued by provisional institutions will have to apply for a residence permit.
These regulations will affect car owners who have identity cards that Serbia issues for citizens in the Autonomous Province of Kosovo and Metohija, and when it comes to the law on foreigners, in this case, Pristina considers as Serbs without documents issued by the provisional institutions who live and work in Kosovo and Metohija as foreigners, as well as those who periodically come to Kosovo and Metohija for work or education.
Yesterday, the Serb List asked representatives of the authorities in Pristina to postpone the implementation of the regulations related to the use of vehicles with authorization and the registration of residence, stressing that the implementation of those regulations would jeopardize the Serbs' freedom of movement.
The Serb List said that it is necessary to find a suitable model in order to avoid the terrible effect that the implementation of those regulations would have when it comes to the lives of the Serbs, their families and institutions, and for it to be in accordance with the agreement reached during the Belgrade-Pristina dialogue in 2022.
