HORROR NEAR PRIJEPOLJE: Car "crumpled" after hitting truck, firefighters spend hours pulling victims out!

A serious traffic accident that happened around noon on Friday on the main road between Prijepolje and Velika Zupa has claimed one life.

The horrific collision between a passenger car and a truck resulted in the death of a woman, while a man, who was driving the car, suffered serious injuries.

According to the latest data from the investigation, for as yet unknown reasons, the Volkswagen they were traveling in veered off its path and hit a truck parked on the side of the road head-on. The impact was so forceful that the front part of the car went completely under the truck.

The woman, who was in the passenger seat, died at the scene.

The driver was pulled out of the crushed vehicle in a critical condition and transported by ambulance to the General Hospital in Prijepolje.

Emergency services intervene

The rescue operation lasted more than an hour. Six firefighters-rescuers with two vehicles were deployed and had to use special hydraulic tools to cut through the deformed metal to reach the victims.

"The scene was gruesome, the car was destroyed like a tin can. The firefighters made incredible effort to pull out the injured man while the police secured the site," eyewitnesses told local media.

Traffic and investigation

The on-site investigation was carried out by members of the traffic police from Prijepolje by order of the competent prosecutor's office. Traffic on this section of the highway towards the border with Montenegro was slowed down as of early Friday afternoon.
