Deputy PM Dacic reacts to the passing of prominent Serbian diplomat Vladislav Jovanovic: "Farewell my comrade"

The passing of former Minister of Foreign Affairs and former ambassador to the UN Vladislav Jovanovic was announced last night by his family. The prominent Serbian diplomat died at the age of 93.

Serbian Deputy PM, Minister of Internal Affairs and leader of the SPS Ivica Dacic was among the top officials, that included the president of the Republic, who said goodbye to Jovanovic.

"Last farewell to the great diplomat, patriot, a distinguished state official and my friend and political comrade Vladislav Vlatko Jovanovic. I am grateful for what he did for Serbia and the Serbian nation," Dacic stated in a post on Instagram.

Jovanovic was the head of diplomacy for two terms, served as ambassador to the UN, and also in Brussels, London, Ankara in various diplomatic roles.

He spent four years as embassy officer in Brussels (1960-1964), then as second secretary at the embassy in Ankara (1967-1971), and as adviser at the embassy in London (1975-1979).

Jovanovic was the Yugoslav ambassador to Turkey from 1985 to 1989.

Jovanovic led several Yugoslav delegations at peace talks and other negotiations during the 1990s.
