SNS leader and presidential advisor Milos Vucevic said today that no one has been held politically responsible for the assassination of Prime Minister Zoran Djindjic, that happened 23 years ago.

"No one came out and said that criminals should not be stronger than the state. No one resigned. Not a shred of accountability. We (current authorities) showed a different attitude towards the citizens. That is a huge difference. Those in charge of the security of the prime minister were not held responsible. He was the prime minister, legitimately elected, killed while doing that job," Vucevic told TV Pink.

He added that at that time, the importance of previous attempts to attack Djidjic were minimized, and the tone was that he was evil and that it was natural for something bad to happen to him.

"Those who pumped that up are nowhere to be found. They are rulers from the shadow of evil who want to rule (the country) without asking the citizens. They steal legitimacy. There's the example of one branch of government, the judiciary or parts of it, wanting to suspend legislative and executive powers. The Constitution allows for usurpation of power by the courts. They hold all the cards. They elect themselves, and they make decisions affecting all of us," said Vucevic.

Djindjic was killed on March 12, 2003, in the courtyard of the Serbian Government building Belgrade. Prime Minister Djuro Macut and members of his cabinet today paid respects at the site of the assassination.
