Telekom Srbija General Director Lucic speaks after company's data gets stolen: Here's what hackers demanded
Telekom Srbija General Director Vladimir Lucic said yesterday that a hacker group stole data from Telekom's servers and that they were blackmailing the company demanding to be given ransom in bitcoins, but that the data of Telekom users is completely safe, and that the functioning of Telekom's services was never in question.
Lucic confirmed to journalists in Bor that data belonging to Telekom's user base was stolen and added that Telekom is under continuous hacker attacks which he said aim to block Telekom Srbija and its services.
"This is about one, I must say, somewhat more amateur hacker group that took a part of the factual data belonging to our satellite television service users and tried to blackmail us. They are asking us for a certain number of bitcoins for that, but we are working with the police and the Department for High-Tech Crime intensively and closely in order to catching those perpetrators," said Lucic.
He added that Telekom Srbija "will prevent those adventurers from publishing any data on the internet, because the company has a mechanism to protect its intellectual property."
"I hope that the police will catch them quickly, to make a point that it doesn't pay to attack Telekom Srbija in that way. As for all services and users, they are completely safe. Their functioning has never been called into question, and it will be at the safest level in the future as well," Lucic pointed out.
Telekom Srbija announced earlier yesterday that a small part of the data from the user base was stolen by as yet unknown perpetrators.
Telekom Srbija immediately reported the case to the Interior Ministry (MUP), i.e. the High-Tech Crime Department.
