President Vucic signs important contract with representatives of AzVirt to build expressway in northern Serbia
President of Serbia Aleksandar Vucic met today in Belgrade with representatives of the AzVirt company from Azerbaijan. This was followed by the signing of a commercial contract to design and build a high-speed road at the Backi Breg-Sombor-Kula-Vrbas-Srbobran border crossing.
"It is a great honor for me to be in friendly Serbia. We will engage all our resources and begin the realization of this great project. We will try to be a reliable partner. We believe that our efforts are recognized in each of our projects. Standards and quality will not be lacking this time either," said Kamil Aliyev, AzVirt executive director, and expressed his gratitude to Vucic and the Serbian president's Azerbaijani counterpart Ilham Aliyev.
The "Smile of Vojvodina" expressway will be between 185 and 186 kilometers long, and is designed for safe and efficient driving at a speed of 100 kilometers per hour. The route connects the territories of the town of Sombor, Kula, Vrbas, Srbobran, Becej, Novi Becej and Srpska Crnja in the northern Serbian province of Vojvodina.
In order to handle the terrain and existing obstacles (canals and road passages), an extremely complex infrastructure has been designed. The project envisages the construction of as many as 46 bridges and 34 overpasses. In addition, the route will include 5 underpasses, 35 culverts, as well as 13 roundabouts for safely turning off and onto this modern road.
The construction of a total of 12 loops is planned on the route of the expressway, which will allow switching off and on at Sombor, Kljajicevo, Sivac, Crvenka, Kula, Vrbas Zapad (West), Vrbas Sever (North), Vrbas Istok (East), Vrbas E75, Srbobran Sever (North), Turija and Kikinda Istok (East).
