On March 24, Zendesk announced a business reorganization that includes closing the office in Serbia. According to the Startit portal, the company had more than 60 employees here.

They said that the original idea was for Serbia to become one of Zendesk's growing development hubs.

Zendesk is a US company that makes customer service software used by over 100,000 companies. They came to Serbia in 2023 by purchasing the Novi Sad startup Tymeshift, which was creating an AI-based team management tool, according to Startit.

A few weeks ago, Zendesk acquired another AI startup, as part of its shift to adapt to AI transformation, which has particularly affected the customer support sector.

Software in general is also affected, which puts Zendesk in a challenging position.

IGV, i.e. iShares Expanded Tech-Software Sector ETF, a fund that tracks shares of software companies such as Salesforce, Microsoft and Atlassian, dropped 4.2 percent on the same day.

The software sector has been under pressure since the beginning of the year - investors fear that AI agents will reduce the need for classic SaaS (software-as-a-service) tools.

This news comes amid a series of similar ones that we reported about recently, such as Lottomatica closing its office in Belgrade that employed 348 people.

The Zendesk office in Serbia will stop working at the end of this week.
