President Aleksandar Vucic has declared the victory of the ruling SNS party in local elections held on Sunday in 10 cities and municipalities across Serbia.

"I will just say briefly that I hope that after this day and tonight, some people will stop the witch hunt for everyone who thinks differently. We narrowly avoided the worst. Some people drew pistols and broke into call centers," Vucic said, addressing the public from the SNS headquarters.

According to him, the SNS list won the majority in Arandjelovac, Bajana Basta, Bor, Kladovo - where the party received almost 72 percent of the votes - in Knjazevac, Kula, Lucani, Majdanpek, Sevojno, Smederevska Palanka, where victory is also certain, but there may still be a redistribution of mandates.

"That's 10-0! Thank you Serbia for the huge trust. For me, the most important thing is to invite people to unite. Last night we received the omnibus, the latest survey, I want to tell you that our party is at this moment in the best position it has been in six years, which you could see from the very difficult (past) elections for us," said Vucic.

Local elections were held on Sunday in Bor, Smederevska Palanka, Kula, Bajana Basta, Lucani, Sevojno, Arandjelovac, Kladovo, Knjazevac and Majdanpek. Seven electoral lists participated in Bor, six in Smederevska Palanka, Bajina Basta and Lucani, five in Arandjelovac and Kula, four in Knjazevac, Majdanpek and Sevojno, and three in Kladovo.

The voting was marked by a series of incidents outside the polling stations as the Gendarmerie separated supporters of the SNS and of the opposition who gathered in many places after the polls closed.
