Serbian PM Macut lays wreath at Martyrs' Memorial, pays respects to fighters of Algerian War of Independence
Serbian PM Djuro Macut today - as part of his official two-day visit to Algeria - laid a wreath at the Martyrs' Memorial (Maqam Echahid) and paid his respects to the fighters of the Algerian War of Independence.
Prime Minister Macut also visited the Museum of Martyrs, dedicated to the struggle of the Algerian people for freedom and independence.
"It is a great honor for me to pay tribute to the brave men and women of Algeria who fought fearlessly for the freedom of their fatherland. The people of Serbia have always stood in solidarity with the people of Algeria and, thanks to your sacrifice, today we have the opportunity to build our future together. We will forever remember your battle, and that torch of freedom you lit will never be extinguished. Glory to the immortal fighters for the freedom of Algeria," the head of the Serbian government wrote in the museum's guest book.
The Serbian PM will today, as part of his visit to Algeria, meet with Algerian PM Sifi Ghrieb and President Abdelmadjid Tebboune.
In addition to Macut, the Serbian delegation includes Minister of Tourism and Youth Husein Memic, and the minister without portfolio in charge of international economic cooperation and the position of the Church in the country and abroad, Nenad Popovic, who also chairs Serbian National Assembly's Joint Committee with People's Democratic Republic of Algeria.
