SNS leader Vucevic speaks after gas pipeline incident near Kanjiza: I congratulate security services of Serbia
The leader of the ruling SNS and presidential advisor, Milos Vucevic, warned against irresponsible behavior after a suspected attempt to sabotage the gas pipeline near Kanjiza, a town in northern Serbia, was prevented. He also congratulated our country's security and the state leadership on the work they have done.
"I congratulate the security services of our country and the state leadership for a job well done. Sabotage was prevented, an attempt or intention to carry out a serious attack with explosives on the gas infrastructure was prevented, to threaten vital national interests, security, economy, energy. It could have been supposed to threaten the security of Hungary as well. The investigation will determine what exactly this is about," Vucevic stated, and added:
"But what is a cause for concern and what is reprehensible are the reports, headlines, statements made by irresponsible media outlets and individuals. Where they claim that the explosives are from Ukraine, Turkey, and they have no knowledge, without any evidence they make such claims and confuse the public and try to hinder the investigation. Once again, I congratulate all the citizens of Serbia on having such authorities that are ready to respond to every challenge, and protect all citizens on every inch of our territory."
The authorities previously announced that this was a serious security incident that could have had far-reaching consequences for the energy stability of Serbia and the region.
Prosecutor Mladenka Manojlovic from the Higher Public Prosecutor's Office in Subotica said that the prosecution qualified the case in Kanjiza as a criminal offense of illegal production, carrying and trafficking of weapons and explosive materials in conjunction with the crime of sabotage.
The Ministry of Defense announced that members of security forces are continuing their work on the ground in the municipality of Kanjiza, with the aim of finding additional clues, as well as identifying and prosecuting persons who may be linked to this event.
