"Good Siptar - dead Siptar": North Macedonians anger Albanians because of this derogatory chant
A game between Vardar and Tikves in the 29th round of the North Macedonian football league was not only marked by the away team losing 7-0, but also drew attention because of the chanting of the local fans, which targeted Albanians.
Pristina-based Koha reports that the home fans, "Komiti", sang, "Good Siptar (pronounced Shiptar; derogatory term for Albanian) - dead Siptar", which can be concluded from a video posted on social networks.
According to the report, it is a case of "fascism and another controversy caused by the Vardar fans, who were chanting anti-Albanian slogans for the umpteenth time."
This media outlet claims that the North Macedonian football association "did not react and probably will not react to these chants."
While things got controversial in the stands, Vardar FC is very close to winning the title, as it stands four points ahead of the second-placed Shkendija (a club founded by ethnic Albanians).
