State data center of Serbia receives top security level certificate
President of Serbia Aleksandar Vucic said today that the State Data Center in Kargujevac has received Certificate 4, which attests to the highest level of reliability and security, and pointed out that not a single country in the region has it.
Vucic specified that Croatia, Romania, Bulgaria, and all the other countries in the region do not have that certificate.
"There is no one in Europe - where that belongs to the state, as what we call national sovereignty, except us, and Poland. Those are mostly privately-owned, we are talking about supercomputers," Vucic said in Kragujevac, where he attended the launch of new data center modules, a new supercomputer, and solar panels.
He said that Serbia now has two supercomputers with such a certificate, and that the third one will be online soon.
"Only us and the Poles have that serve to preserve national sovereignty, of course thanks to the US (company) Nvidia, and the huge investment made by our state," Vucic pointed out.
He added that "all roads" in that regard lead to the town of Kragujevac, and that Kragujevac, as well as the entire country, will benefit enormously from this going forward.
"The fact that Oracle, Honeywell and many other companies, the world's most powerful, have kept their data here shows how much trust there is in us and in our method of data protection, and this will only be more pronounced in the future," Vucic said.
Director of the Serbian Government's Office for IT and eGovernment Mihailo Jovanovic said that modules 3 and 4 with a capacity of 4 megawatts each are being put into operation and added that the total capacity of the data center is 14 megawatts.
He noted that the new supercomputer has 48 graphics cards and is "seven times faster".
The president stated that over the last six months there have been two million cyber attacks targetting state infrastructure, but that we managed to defend ourselves and added that EDS and EPS (Serbian electricity production and distribution companies) have transferred their data to the Data Center in Kragujevac.
"The tax administration and the Customs will store their data here in the supercomputers," Vucic pointed out.
He also remarked that Serbia has withstood "much more severe attacks than hacker attacks."
"Remember, we were under threat twice and lost electricity, because all that couldn't have been protected all that well. Now it will be much different, that's of great importance for the safety and security of the country," said Vucic.
He pointed out that Serbia must not miss out on the revolution involving the development of artificial intelligence and innovative technologies.
"The world is changing rapidly. We must invest a lot in education and we must not miss out on this revolution," said President Vucic.
