PM Macut and cabinet ministers pay respects to victims of Belgrade elementary school massacre
Members of the Government of Serbia, led by Prime Minister Djuro Macut, on Sunday paid their respects to the victims of a mass shooting committed at the Vladilsav Ribnikar Elementary School in Belgrade on May 3, 2023.

PM Macut, Minister of Education Dejan Vuk Stankovic and Minister of Justice Nenad Vujic laid a wreath in front of the school on behalf of the Government of Serbia and signed the book of remembrance.
Representatives of Belgrade's central Vracar municipality, where the school is located, also paid their respects.
The marking the third anniversary of the tragedy at the Vladislav Ribnikar Elementary - where student K.K. shot and killed nine students and a school guard - started in the morning in front of that school with a gathering of families and friends of the victims, as well as students and citizens.
The commemorations began at 08:40 with a minute of silence, and the families of the victims were the first to light candles, lay wreaths and flowers, and write in the book of remembrance. They were joined by numerous friends and other citizens.
On September 19, 2024, the Government decided to establish May 3 and 4 as Days of Remembrance for the Vladislav Ribnikar Elementary victims, and another mass shooting that occurred a day later in Orasje and Dubona.
The Week of Remembrance and Unity is marked in elementary and high schools in Serbia from May 4 to 8.
Three years later, K.K. - who was just under 14 when he committed the massacre and could therefore not be held criminally responsible - remains in a psychiatric institution. His parents were sentenced to several years in prison by first-instance verdicts, but that was overturned and sent for retrial by the Appellate Court in Belgrade.
On May 3, 2023, just before nine o'clock, K.K. shot and killed nine students and a guard inside the school he attended. Five more students and a history teacher were wounded.
