Suspect in gruesome machete murder case arrested in Obrenovac

Only a few hours after a horrific machete attack that happened in Obrenovac last night, 24-year-old A.D. was arrested on Thursday. He is suspected of murdering 29-year-old Misel G.

The arrest is a result of a quick and coordinated police operation that lasted during the night, and was led by the head of the Obrenovac police.

The seriously injured Misel G. was found last night in Ljube Nenadovica Street and shortly after succumbed to his injuries. The police immediately launched Operation Vihor ("Whirlwind").

Thanks to operational data and a quick response, officers managed to identify and locate the suspect in record time.

The Obrenovac police chief, who was at the scene of the crime from the start of the investigation, personally coordinated the search. The case was effectively solved in just a few hours, which prevented the escape of the attacker who was hiding after committing the crime.

The investigation established some gruesome details about the planned attack.

At the time of the murder, Misel G. was under house arrest and under electronic surveillance.

"The attackers knew exactly where he was and that his movement was restricted. He could not leave the yard of his house without activating the alarm on the ankle monitor. They used that to lay a cruel ambush, in a place where he felt the safest," says a source close to the investigation.

Past unsettled business as motive?

Telegraf has learned the victim and the suspect knew each other from before, and were members of the same criminal milieu. It is believed that the motive for this brutal act are past conflicts related to drug trafficking.

The murder victim had an extensive police record, which included drug trafficking, multiple aggravated thefts, disturbing public order and peace.

Misel G. was killed by blows inflicted using a machete, and despite the efforts of the doctors at the Healthcare Center, he succumbed to the serious injuries. The body has been sent for an autopsy, and the police continue to collect all the evidence so that this case can be prosecuted by the competent prosecutor's office.

Obrenovac is still under increased police surveillance, but citizens can breathe a sigh of relief because the direct perpetrators of this crime have been removed from their midst.
