Serbian government to face no confidence vote in National Assembly on July 27

President of the National Assembly Ana Brnabic scheduled the 9th extraordinary session for Monday, where the no confidence proposal in the Serbian government will be debated.

The session was convened at the request of 109 deputies, the Assembly announced.

For this session, the agenda includes only one item - the proposal for a vote of no confidence in the government, originally submitted on February 13 by 62 members from the ranks of the opposition.

Brnabic said earlier today that the session will be scheduled for Monday and pointed out that it will show whether the majority in the Assembly has confidence in the government led by Djuro Macut.

"We have 30 days (from a successful no confidence vote) to form a new government, if a new government is not formed, then the Assembly is dissolved," Brnabic told K1 and added that starting at that time, there would be a 60 day deadline until the election.

She stated that it may also happen that the Assembly expresses its confidence in the government of Prime Minister Macut.

"Let's just see if the parliament has confidence in the government or not," she added.

The no confidence proposal was submitted on February 13 by deputy by People's Movement of Serbia - New Face of Serbia, Freedom and Justice Party, Serbia of the Center, We the Strength of the People - Dr. Branimir Nestorovic, Environmental Uprising, Green-Left Front, Movement of Free Citizens, POKS, and independent deputy Miloljub Albijanic.

The reason why they are asking for a vote of no confidence, the motion stated, is the alleged existence of a well-founded suspicion of the involvement of certain members of the government in the General Staff (Generalstab building) case, as well as the fact that the prime minister did not undetake any action in this regard.

The proposal for a no confidence vote was presented to the deputies for the first time on April 15.

However, that session was not held on two occasions due to the lack of quorum, and the same was true in the third attempt the following day.

President of the Assembly Ana Brnabic stated at the time that 44 of the 62 deputies who signed the request for a vote of no confidence in the government of Serbia were present at the session and added that this shows how serious the opposition representatives really are in their intentions.

Brnabic said that the session with that issue on the agenda "will be held later, because before the Assembly, the laws are important for the citizens as well as for accession to the European Union."
